So Today we are going to look into who the Snake in the Garden really is.
First lets look at the Text itself and have a refresher on the Conversation between the Snake and Havah.
1Now the serpent was cunning, more than all the beasts of the field that the Lord God had made, and it said to the woman, "Did God indeed say, 'You shall not eat of any of the trees of the garden?'"
2And the woman said to the serpent, "Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat.
3But of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, God said, "You shall not eat of it, and you shall not touch it, lest you die.'"4And the serpent said to the woman, "You will surely not die.
5For God knows that on the day that you eat thereof, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like angels, knowing good and evil."
6And the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was a delight to the eyes, and the tree was desirable to make one wise; so she took of its fruit, and she ate, and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.
So, who is the Snake in the Garden?
Well if you read the text literally, the Snake is just a snake. And if you read into it like many people do then you see that the snake is an evil force called SATAN, or LUCIFER, or the DEVIL.
Lets look into the conversation to analyze what is more likely. So, we see that the snake is "more cunning than all the beasts of the field"- Meaning other beasts of the field were also cunning.
The snake asks Havah if God really told her that she couldn't eat of ANY of the trees of the Garden.
She tells the snake that the only tree forbidden was the tree in the Midst of the garden called the TREE OF KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL because if they ate it or touched it they would DIE.
The Snake is said to have lied to her in Christian and Muslim circles, but in Jewish circles the snake was telling the truth.
The Snake convinces her that it was ok to eat of the fruit because God knows that the day you eat of it you will be come knowledgeable of good and evil like the Angels.. So ultimately she does eat and gives it to her Husband also.
Next thing you know they BECOME knowledgeable of good and evil. It looks like The snake was telling the truth. I have no idea why Christians and Muslims think that the snake was lying to Havah. So lets answer the question from the beginning of my post. Who is the snake in the Garden?
The answer may surprise you, but there is no evidence it was an evil entity. The reason I can say that is because the snake had a voice of its own and and therefore he had the ability to make his own decisions meaning he probably also ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. After all, God didn't tell the animals they couldn't eat from the tree.. Now it does say that the Angels also knew Good and Evil, But They can only do what GOD wants them to do. That's another reason I think it wasn't an angelic/ demonic entity.
Its interesting to think that God may not have had influence on the snake, but ultimately the snake did get punished. He had to crawl on his belly and eat the dust of the ground all his days.
One more thing to think about before I end this post.
If Havah chose to eat form the TREE OF LIFE then they wouldn't have had the opportunity to be knowledgeable of good and evil, because GOD says later on that the combination of both trees being eaten would have made them Equal to God and the ANGELS.
HAVAH made the RIGHT CHOICE.
THAT WILL BE MY NEXT TOPIC IN MY NEXT VLOG
